I'm so sick of it. This magical word that means artists don't have to work for their skill, they are just "born with talent".
It's really getting on my nerves. I worked hard for YEARS to build up my skill, I went to college for 4yrs, and studied my head off, I now have a job as a technical production specialist for children's games, and somehow people just chalk it up to 'talent'.
Well it wasn't talent it was WORK. They'd never just say a doctor was talented.
I saw was watching one of my favorite little animated shorts by a student on youtube, and saw in a comment something like 'I had a similar idea, and if I'd had any talent this is what it'd look like'
And I was so offended for the artist. YEARS went into this, any animator can tell. It takes persistence, and work, and dedication, and WORK to finish a 5 minute long traditionally animated short. And this person has the nerve to say if they'd been born with some magical gift, they could have done it too.
Being an artist isn't winning the stupid genetic lottery. It's work, hard work.
It's putting over a year of constant work into a single piece to only get 3 comments, and less then 200 views on this piece while a simple little fanart piece you did years ago gets almost 15,000 views and almost 13,000 downloads, but not selling out (drawing only fanart, just for attention. There is nothing wrong with fanart, it's just selling out if the only reason you are doing it is for attention) and still creating pieces because you believe in them.
Just my rant. I was so offended that some stupid person on youtube had the gall to say if only they had 'talent' they could have made that animation. It made me feel so bad for the artist.
